Lionsgate’s WITCH no longer in SEASON next month

By Michael Gingold
Variety reports that with only a month and a week to go, Lionsgate has pulled its supernatural thriller SEASON OF THE WITCH from its March 19 release berth. No explanation was given for the change, though Universal shifted its violent sci-fi thriller REPO MEN from April 2 to the 19th a week ago.

A new debut has not been set for SEASON; a Lionsgate spokeswomen tells the trade simply, “We’re looking for the best release date.” Directed by Dominic Sena from a screenplay by Bragi Schut, SEASON OF THE WITCH stars Nicolas Cage and Ron Perlman as knights in the 14th century tasked by the Catholic Church with transporting a girl (Claire Foy) suspected of being a sorceress responsible for the Black Plague. The cast also includes Stephen Campbell Moore, Robert Sheehan, Ulrich Thomsen and genre vet Christopher Lee. Sena and Schut discuss the film in Fango #292, on sale next month.
