FREE New York City Fango screening: DISTRICT 13: ULTIMATUM

By FANGORIA Staff
FANGORIA will host a free screening of DISTRICT 13: ULTIMATUM, TAKEN producer Luc Besson’s sequel to his smash-hit futuristic action thriller DISTRICT B13, at the Cinema Village (22 East 12th Street, off University Place) tomorrow, Thursday, January 28 at 7 p.m.

Directed by Patrick Alessandrin and written and produced by Besson (THE FIFTH ELEMENT, LA FEMME NIKITA, THE PROFESSIONAL, the TRANSPORTER movies, etc.), DISTRICT 13: ULTIMATUM picks up where the previous film ended. Two years have passed since elite police officer Damien Tomasso (Cyril Raffaelli) teamed up with reformed vigilante Leito (parkour originator David Belle) to save the notorious District 13, a racially charged ghetto populated by violent drug-dealing gangs and vicious killers. Despite government promises to maintain order, the state of the district has deteriorated, and a group of corrupt cops and elected officials are conspiring to cause civil unrest in D13, looking for an excuse to raze the area and cash in on its redevelopment. Now Damian and Leito must join forces again, and use their mastery of martial arts and unique physical skills to bring peace to the neighborhood by any means necessary before a proposed nuclear air strike wipes it off the map.

Reviewing DISTRICT 13: ULTIMATUM, Matt McAllister of Total Sci-Fi said: “Shot with a breathless efficiency by director Patrick Alessandrin, this is a vibrant action movie that generally improves on the original.” Variety’s Jordan Mintzer praised: “The pic skillfully blends combat with social messaging, in an explosive blend that should satisfy fans,” while Daily Star raved, “Extraordinary! The gravity-defying and bone-breaking action is amazing.” And Channel4’s Neil Smith said: “An entertaining sequel with a political subtext that doesn’t get in the way of the wall-to-wall action.”

  1. Hey there!
Could you relay a little news about Fangoria and the websites? I see Gingold on this blog, which leads me to believe this is "official". The old "official" Fango Facebook page seems to only be linking to some new music website, but they won't shed any light on the situation. Help!
